Export competition heats up as prices on both sides of the Atlantic converge

Europe
Local demand for standardization remains the focus for now
EU lactose prices continue to appreciate and are at EUR 1500–1550 ex works in early June. Local demand for standardization in the EU still keeps the market firm with a bit of export demand to top it off. The price graph suggests that US origins are still priced more favorably but prices at the customer end are not that much apart anymore.
Americas
US origins continue to win the export deals
After a few weeks of strong US exports to Latin American markets trading activity slowed down a bit in early June. Prices nevertheless stuck to the range of USD 0.70-0.75/lb (1545-1655/t) ex works. US origins remain the preferred option as long as competing EU product continues to go up. Lower tier product that remains inside the US trades mostly in the low USD 0.60s/lb (1360-1410/t) ex works.
