Lactose market is expected to remain tight in Q1

The lactose market is overall stable with a slightly bullish undertone despite corresponding US prices falling somewhat. Availability for Q1 still seems to be tight. Lactose is traded between EUR 850-900 ex works, with most trades done just below EUR 900.

US origins are competitive in export markets

Lactose prices remained largely unchanged at USD 0.38/lb (840/t) ex works. Trading activity is limited but since the US is now competitive in most export markets – provided logistic costs are not too far apart – prices may stick at this level in months to come.
